Herbicide Application and Weed Control

We have NPTC qualifications (National Proficiency Test Council) in the application of herbicides using a knapsack sprayer (PA1), and safe handling of chemicals (PA6).

We usually use Gallup, a glyphosate-based product, to control a variety of weeds. However, we carry out weeding by hand if that is a customer’s preference, for example if they have an organic garden.

Herbicide Application and Weed Control

We never spray herbicide when the wind is likely to be more than 4mph, as this could result in spray drift, which can damage non-target plants. Neither will we spray where rain is forecast within six hours, as rain can wash the chemicals from the plant before the chemical has interacted with the plant. All chemicals are legally approved for use in gardens. Before any application takes place, we provide information on the chemical’s label, which incudes any advisory information from the manufacturer.

Chemical treatment of weeds is an efficient, cost-effective means of weed control. However, if you’d rather opt for non-chemical weed control, we also offer a non-chemical weeding service in which roots are removed using hand tools.
