Leylandii, the most common species of hedge tree, should generally be cut at least twice a year to maintain their size and shape and to keep them compact with minimum spacing between the foliage. The number of cuts recommended for other species varies between one and three cuts per year. We can advise on the best trimming frequency for your hedge or shrubs.

Formative hedge pruning, required in the first two or three years after planting focuses on stimulating healthy, balanced growth. Maintenance trimming for established hedges prevents them from getting too big and ensures that they have an attractive shape.
Hedge reduction—where a hedge is taken back beyond the last six months’ growth—requires knowledge of the species and its tolerance to cutting, as overcutting can permanently damage or even kill a hedge tree.
There are several variables affecting the cost of hedge trimming, such as access, obstacles such as sheds, height, width, and slope.
